Before I tell y’all about this very dope upcoming documentary and why you should support it, let me take a moment to give a shout out and some kudos to the film’s director and producer, Glennisha Morgan. A few years back when I was getting my personal brand off the ground and also throwing women in hip hop events in North Carolina, Glennisha was one of the few people who believed enough in what I was doing to support my endeavors, both monetarily and else wise. For that reason, among others, I appreciate and support what she’s doing for women in hip hop culture and her relentless determination to showcase us in a positive light and uplifting manner.
The Fembassy, the web’s #1 source for female emcees and created by Glennisha in 2008, will be releasing a documentary titled "Turn Me Up". Her idea was in part sparked by Nicki Minaj’s success and dominance, along with the “Where are the female emcees?” question raised repeatedly by folks in hip hop culture. With “Turn Me Up” Glennisha will answer the question by chronicling numerous underground and independent female emcees from the West Coast, East Coast, Midwest and South. Artists such as Siya, IB, Invincible, Mae Day, Miz Korona, Raven Sorvino and more will be featured in the film.
The Fembassy has created an Indigogo campaign to help fund the completion of the film. You can donate at multiple levels and each contribution has very cool perk(s).
Visit "Turn Me Up’s" Indiegogo page to learn more about the film, contribution perks and how your donations will be utilized.
Glennisha’s work with The Fembassy has not gone unnoticed. She was featured in BET’s first music documentary, "My Mic Sounds Nice", a 2010 film about women in hip hop, and also Juicy Magazine, Vibe and CentricTV. It’s rare these days to see a consistent, positive movement supporting women in hip hop culture. "Turn Me Up" is a great opportunity to fund a grassroots effort to continue these efforts and also spread the word to a wider audience.
