Charlamagne talks with DJ Vlad on how far a gay hip hop artist can go and what it would take for them to succeed. And let’s be clear, there are female rappers who are open about homo/bisexuality in their lyrics (i.e. Nicki Minaj). So Charlamagne’s referring to a male openly gay rapper.
Charlamagne also points out that hip hop is in the era of the androgynous rapper, using the styling of Mindless Behavior and Weezy (and his leopard print jeggings, also spotted on Willow Smith) as a jump off point. According to Charla, an openly gay male rapper would need to be both a homothug and nice on the microphone.
