With the exception of a select few from my favorite femcee/emcess I bought fewer full length albums this year than ever.
Suffice it to say mixtapes have just about taken the game over.
Especially free ones. But of course everything that’s free isnt good.
So below are my top 10 FREE mixtapes that dropped this year.
In no particular order and certified fresh for your .mp3 players.
‘The Finest In Music’ mixtape coming soon!
1. Percy Miracles ‘The Ladies Champ’. Folk had been begging for a Sweet Percy album for a long time.
Little did heads know that Mr. Dance Floor himself dropped one back in July.
When I caught up with The Foreign Exchange last month Phonte said Percy Miracles died a tragic death surrounded by hookers and mountains of cocaine. The game will miss you Percy!

2. Charles Hamilton ‘The L Word’. It’s refreshing when a man is confident enough in his emotions to cry about his lack of female companionship and coolness for an entire mixtape and do it so eloquently. Download here.
3. B.O.B. ‘Who The F*ck Is B.O.B.? Check out this tape and you’ll find out. A 3 Stacks reincarnate for the “hipster generation?”
Download here.
4. Rapper Big Pooh’s ‘Rappers Delight’. I still don’t understand why heads feel Pooh’s lyrical skills aren’t up to parr with Phonte’s.
Download here.
5. Edgar Allen Floe’s ‘The Road To Streetwise’. Straight grown people hip hop!
Download here.
6. Khyrisis ‘Khyrisis On The Boards With The Heat Vol 2.’ One of my favoritist (no spell check needed) producers.
Download here.
7. Tre-Dot ‘Through The Eyes Of A Prisoner’. Hip hop with an old school vibe and a new school twist.
Download here.
8. Cool Kids ‘Cool Ass Ninjas’. The kind of tape to listen to when you don’t want to think too hard and be in chillax mode. Plus my intern Imani thinks Mikey Rocks is cute.
Download here.
9. Lupe Fiasco ‘Revenge Of The Nerds’. The title says it all. A great excellent tape with tons of lyrical jabs and super tight flows.
Download here.
10. Chamillionaire ‘Mixtape Messiah 5’. Previously ‘Man On Fire’ was my fav Cham tape. No apologies to other H-town artists (Legendary Bun B is in a different league) but the rest of ya’ll just don’t measure up.
Download here.
Extras:
Redd’s ‘Nail In The Coffin’. Femcee from VA that spits hard.
Rich Boy’s ‘Bigger Than The Mayor’. Alabama where ya’ll at? Plus I wonder what ever happened to Dirty Boyz?
Lil Boosie’s ‘Da Beginning’. I don’t care what heads say I dig Boosie Boo’s voice and flow.
