The holidays are upon us and it is the season for gifting. This year (all year round, really) it’s important to remember local and small businesses. Supporting local business provides financial vitality to your communities. Killer Mike even talked about the importance of doing so in the January 2012 issue of XXL magazine.
If you’re a die hard streetwear fan, sneaker head or fashion forward individual, rather than buy your sneakers, crew necks and fitteds at a big box, corporate owned store, take your dollars instead to the local community-based streetwear boutique and spend your dollars there.
Most moderate to large size cities have one and North Carolina has several. Chapel Hill has Estate and Raleigh has CAPS; in the university area of Charlotte you can find Velocity Sneaker Boutique and in Greensboro there’s Kosmic Kickz.
Remember, we cannot expect our communities to thrive and survive in this tough economy unless we support the businesses within it. The owners of these stores are people we see everyday, who in turn also support and present events that give back to the community.
If you’re in Greensboro stop by Kosmic Kickz. You can support your local hip hop blogger while there by copping a Nanci O Is Hip Hop T shirt, which are also available in the online store. All items in the online store are 40% off with JSWISS’s promo code of ‘Cool Grey‘.
