2013 has been pretty quiet for Pineville, SC’s Benjamin Starr. We haven’t seen any new material since his extremely live Guns-N-Roses mixtape, which was also on the The Top Carolina Hip Hop Releases Of 2012 list. Matter fact, if I’d been ranking releases last year, G-N-R would have been #2, definitely no lower than #3.

Benny Starr will be releasing a new project before the end of 2013, and “Stay” will be featured on it. The SOULoist is going to be an EP. No word on the production credits yet, but G-N-R included top notch work from SC beat creators Max Berry and Joel Brown (aka Joe Breezy — y’all heard his work all over Oxymoron’s My Well Smokes Good). I’m looking forward to see if The SOULoist will be better than Starr’s previous projects, which also included the above excellent The Scorsese Sessions mixtape.
