Radio station WCHL 1360 Chapel Hill, NC—which has been broadcasting since 1953—will soon convert their frequency over to the FM dial.

WCHL 1360 offers news, the major UNC-Chapel Hill sporting events and nationally syndicated talk hosts who covers the Chapel Hill and Carrboro communities and beyond. It is only one of the two stations in North Carolina that carry a Progressive Talk format and is also the flagship for the Tar Heel Sports Network.

The owners of WCHL 1360 purchased the 97.9 FM frequency from Liberty University in Virginia. Currently 1360 WCHL broadcasts from Creedmoor, NC but the station’s towers will eventually be based in Chapel Hill.

The new WCHL 97.9 FM is scheduled to began broadcasting in Spring 2012.
