Last month, the Independent Weekly, RDU’s progressive news, music and culture publication, invited Phonte Coleman of The Foreign Exchange/Little Brother, Producer Commissioner Gordon, Denver Hill (manager of The Colony Theater) and yours truly to a private screening of Michael Rappaport’s new hip hop documentary, Beats, Rhymes And Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest.

In this week’s paper, The Indy published an article by Craig Lindsey that highlighted our feedback on the film; you can check it out below.

If you get a chance, definitely check out the movie, it provides a great view of how ATCQ was formed, what their early years in hip hop were like, fusing jazz into their style, the Native Tongues movement, plus much more. NC’s own 9th Wonder makes an appearance in the film as well.

Beats, Rhymes And Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest opens in theaters nationwide today.
