Nanci O Is Hip Hop

The local hip hop community in RDU is saddened by the news; on Friday July 29, 2011 The Brewery in Raleigh, NC is closing it’s doors.

Since 1983, The Brewery has been one of the most important staples of the independent music scene in Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC. Both known and unknown hip hop, rock, electronica, metal and bluegrass artists have graced its stage.

Within the past year, 9th Wonder’s It’s A Wonderful World Music Group (IWWMG) has held the majority of its events there: the sold out Gladiator Beat Battle, Rapsody’s Thank H.E.R. Now mixtape release party, Big Remo’s Entrapment album release party and most notably, the IWWMG Artist Showcases.

According to The Brewery’s Facebook page

a local contractor bought the building where the venue is housed, and is tearing it down on August 1, 2011. The Brewery’s staff were informed of this news on Friday July 22, 2011.

All may not be lost though; The Brewery’s website will be maintained, and they are hinting that the venue may open again at a different location in the area.

The last show at The Brewery on this Friday July 29, 2011 at its current location, 3009 Hillsborough St. Raleigh, NC 27607, will be headlined by southern metal band, Embracing Goodbye.
