The entire nation remains riveted to the media circus in Florida surrounding Casey Anthony’s acquittal yesterday, but let’s not disregard the crimes against children occurring in our own backyards and beyond.
WTVD-11 reports that late yesterday afternoon, Fayetteville, NC’s Antoinette Davis was indicted on first-degree murder charges. Shaniya Davis was five years old in 2009 when she was sold into prostitution to settle her mother’s drug debts. The man who "bought" Shaniya later raped, and then murdered her. Before yesterday, Antoinette Davis only faced charges of human trafficking and child abuse with prostitution.
Antoinette Davis is currently retained at the Cumberland County Detention Center in Fayetteville on a $1.5 million bond.
The NC hip hop community continued to keep the Shaniya Davis story alive through their rhymes. Back in 2009, when news of her murder first hit, "Heaven’s Angel" was released by Fayetteville’s First In Flight (Big Cas, Rain, and Lo Keys).

J. Cole also rhymed about Shaniya Davis on "See World", off his latest mixtape, Friday Night Lights, which dropped in November 2010.
