Last Friday the 1st Annual Food Drive Jump-Off took place. The event was free with 2 cans of food to benefit the Interfaith Community Council. The food drive was presented by Spring Hill The Movement, Black Ink Magazine, Get Down Son, Eargasm Entertainment, Cafe Beyond and www.nancioradioshow.com. For entertainment there was poetry and live performances from local artists such as Azon Blaze, Sky Blew, SK4MC, L3, Kourvoisier, Sarah Kaboom plus more, with the legendary DJ Skaz Digga on the 1s and 2s.
During last week’s airing of NC Spin the food bank and emergency food aid crisis was a topic of discussion. This holiday season 1 in 6 North Carolinians need food aid. The Second Harvest Food Bank noted that people coming in for aid is the highest they’ve seen in years, in addition to the fact more people with full time jobs (vs. senior citizens, large families and folks on disability) are coming in for help.
