I saw this in yesterday’s WSJ.com edition but just now getting around to blogging about it. Pink Friday took a leak earlier this week and the negatron internet soldiers have been out in full force attempting to blast the album. I have no desire to be a barbie, barbz or whatever her fans call themselves but chose to look at Nicki Minaj’s movement from the brand perspective. What strikes me as the most exciting element of her time in the game is the excitement and hype around a female rappers DEBUT album.
Think about where Nicki Minaj’s brand was when the Beam Me Up Scotty mixtape dropped. Now look at it now. She went from trying to be like Lil Kim, to sh*tting on Lil Kim, to surpassing Lil Kim’s movement from when the Queen Bee was coming out as a debut rapper. How can you hate on that? Plus when was the last time a solo female rapper was in the Wall Street Journal? I’ll wait.
Pink Friday is out next Monday. I’ll probably end up getting a clean version and giving it to my little cousins.
