If you had any doubt, any inkling, against the fact that Eminem or Drake would sell more than 500,000 copies in their first week, you can go ahead and dead those thoughts.
On this week’s episode of Where Is Hip Hop? Randy and I discuss the facts behind both artists’ first week numbers. Em sold 741,000 + copies, while Drake pulled in close to 450,00 of Thank Me Later. As far as online sales, Recovery did over 255,000, which is the one of the highest number of online sales, 2nd only to Coldplay. Regardless of how people feel about Em’s content on his last album Relapse, he consistantly releases material that his fan base supports. Drake’s So Far Gone was released in January 2009 as a mixtape, and then released as an EP in September; to date the EP has almost gone Gold.
We also chop it down on whether Nikki Minaj will sell close to the same amount of numbers Drake did in his first week. Last, we remind the listeners of the 2010 South Carolina Music Awards coming July 9-11 in Charleston, SC. Randy and DJ Chuck T will be hosting the main event and the online/UStream broadcast of the event will be presented by yours truly. Tune in LIVE for backstage access, exclusive interviews with celebrity guests plus up to the minute news on this years’ events.
