Nanci O Is Hip Hop

I saw a tweet sent out by Kaze (another veteran on the NC hip hop scene) regarding Supastition’s retirement earlier today and was instantly saddened for the scene.

Over on his blog Supastition wrote a long post about his decision to retire from hip hop as an artist. With three albums and three EPs deep in the game his most recent record label home MYX Music has closed it’s doors, due to the labels parent company ABS-CBN taking some L’s over the past year and finances for the label no longer being available. Kam Moye’s latest album Spitting Image got lost in the shuffle along with a couple of other folks’. He will no longer release new material but will drop several albums via his website containing unreleased material from the vaults…all for de free.

“Waking up to see a blog giving away your entire discography for free followed by a single sentence saying “support the artist” is a very humbling thing to see when your rent is due. That’s not bitterness, it’s just today’s reality…”

More news about the entire sad situation can be found on Supastition’s website.

“Now let’s just be honest here/I don’t need a million in bills
to be happy/I got a family and the feeling is real/
I’m not saying I don’t want to make it, I’m all for money making”
