The South Carolina Music Awards & The Niche Carolina Magazine 2nd Anniversary Celebration weekend went down in Columbia, SC over the past couple of days. I’m back in town but not fully recovered or unpacked. I hate unpacking.
A couple of pictures from the events and some of the interviews done at the main event Saturday night will be posted up later today.
As for in town events I got the scoop on the I Gotta Hit pre-show contest for The Carolina Music Awards (coming in August) that took place on Saturday night in Durham. 9th Wonder and Brian Dawson were judges with Geechi Suede of Camp Lo hosting. Sources tell me both 9th and Brian left the event well before it was over and no one knew they were gone. Suede did a mic opener at the beginning of the show and then got ghost. What are we talking about, hosting?
There was only one microphone so artists who needed more than one were short. If you had hype man he was more like a mime man; with no mic all he could do was mouth the words and move his arms. Apparently the man in the sound booth was in his own world and kept queuing up the wrong songs.
On positive notes for the event the crowd was super thick and wall to wall. Artists, producers and DJs from across the state came out to support Nita & QPExposure. She does alot to put on for the indie grind so it’s only right.
The top contenders for winning first place of I Gotta Hit appear to be: KBS Pearl, Ike Ellis and Dat Soldier. Part II goes down this Saturday. Same time, same place and hopefully without the same dramatics.
