We all know it, heard it or may have experienced it. This industry wouldn’t be half bad if ninja’s didn’t lie so much or try to get over on folk.
Here are some things to remember if you’re new to the industry. I haven’t been around but a little bit myself so I’m forever learning. One thing that’s been money well spent is on a good lawyer. Trust me, the time taken out to find a reputable one saved me from getting caught up in a pretty bad financial situation.
I was chopping it up with an associate today who’d stopped by the studio and pretty much confirmed some things I’d been hearing and that had been going on around my way. Sharks are always circling in the industry ya’ll, be sure to protect yourself in these dangerous waters:
#1. Do your research on people. Ask around about that person before you sign anything.
#2. Be careful who you co-sign. Cause if that person is shady/has a history of bad business practice then you may get attached to it.
#3. Always, ALWAYS get an attorney to review papers BEFORE you sign ANYthing. No matter what the other person tells you or how long ya’ll have known each other, get a reputable lawyer to go over the paperwork.
OK there were more but that’s pretty much it. In the end the best thing I can say is go with your gut. If something doesn’t feel right then chances are it isn’t legit.
