I typically don’t do album reviews around these parts, especially for major artists. They already get so much love elsewhere there’s really no need. Plus if you like an established artist you’re going to their new material regardless of what others say.
However all evening I’ve been rocking to that new Redman and Method Man ‘Blackout! 2’. I’m by no means the #1 hip hop tastemaker out here but regardless of what other folk think if I like certain material it’s gonna get love on the show, in the whip, or in those heated debates people seem to always try to draw me into about who’s the best. *No DJ Khaled*
‘Blackout! 2’ is just good hip hop music. It doesn’t sound dated, the beats are ill and there are no pass over tracks. Plus Red is in my top 10 and has been since ‘Whut? Thee Album’.
When I interviewed Redman on the spot last year **my interview skills were not as sharp then + I was geeked up cause it was my first “major” interview** after a show, during the interview dude said I had ‘hot feet’; at that time I had no idea WTF he was talking about. After listening to ‘Mrs. International’ off the new album it all makes sense now.
I don’t do chicken sandwhich ratings like Randy but if I had to throw up a rating scale for the new album here it go:
with one chicken sandwhich=wacktacular and
5 chicken sandwhiches=music worth spending money on.
