Nanci O Is Hip Hop

There are times I like to set it off and get it crunk.

There are times when I want to be up in the club with a drink and a two step, with a slamming DJ rocking the tables, hit the dance floor and grab a cutie to tear it up with.

There are times when I slide behind the wheel, hit the open road, bang something hard and just rock and nod along with the track.

There are times when I’m alone in my room sometimes I stare at the wall and in the back of my mind, I hear my conscience call.

There are times when I gotta be a big girl, suck it up, get my grown woman grind on and get out here and make that paper.

Music to go with these times is an absolute necessity. I must have a soundtrack that matches and relates to my mood and mind frame at a given moment in time.

La Chat’s Da Hood Homegirl and Khia’s Nasti Muzik are both albums that have tracks that can slide into and fit one of those times mentioned above. Anytime I listen to a track and can learn, rock or relate to it, I feel it.

*Total Recall*: The key word for this week is “Hustler”

La Chat has been on the independent grind for a minute. Her first album Murder She Spoke did 200,000 units. She isn’t well known nationwide but she’s been getting it on and in since she left Three 6 Mafia years ago; she also has her own label Dime-A-Dozen Entertainment.

Da Hood Homegirl is her 4th album but she’s been dropping mixtapes like crazy left and right. I’ve always felt that Memp Tenn laid back, grimy and raw style and Da Hood Homegirl most definitely has that vibe to it, from a woman’s point of view.

On Da Hood Homegirl La Chat is on some grown woman, independent, stack paper, girl get out here and get your money right vibe. Oh and while you’re at it do what you gotta do to keep your man in line–[Peep the ‘Truth Hurts’ track]

I can most definitely feel that!

Off top alot of people hate on Khia. They say she’s a loud, ignorant, foolish, unpolished ghetto chick with no class.

No matter what you call her you can’t knock homegirls‘ hustle. Between television, radio and her widely popular advice blog [which I happen to love because she’s funny and keeps it real] she is definitely pimping the hell out of the industry. While people are hating on and talking about her they are also putting her name out there. So who’s the fool?

Nasti Muzik is Khia’s 3rd album. With it she makes two things extremely clear:
1. Lil Wayne is that nigga

2. She can’t stand Trina’s ass
Khia rhymes about getting her hustle on and doing the grown woman thing too. Nasti Muzik was also put out on her Big Cat Records label.

If I can say one thing about Khia to sum up the album:

She is without a doubt the Millie Jackson of Hip Hop. Nuff said.
