Y’all remember Columbia, SC native singer/songwriter Mary Liz The Princess? When I interviewed her on my radio show back in 2011, she was working with Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Frosty’s Stupid Dope Moves record label. During that time she released a couple of mixtapes, The Princess Is Here and Pretty Gritty, where she sang over remixed popular trap beats and party anthems such as Waka Flocka’s “Grove Street Anthem”, T-Pain’s “Welcome To My Hood” and Wiz Khalifa’s “On My Level”.
Right around the time before Pretty Gritty dropped, Mary Liz The Princess Ryatt Fienix’s style had started becoming more edgy. Since then, Mary Liz The Princess changed her name to Ryatt Fienix and has taken her brand into an even grittier style. Now she’s working with fellow Columbia, SC native WillPower (aka SupaHotBeats) down in Atlanta. “Tattoo Love” is my reintroduction to her sound and I love it. The woman can still sing her a$$ off, and the new single is fie.
Check out the video for “Tattoo Love” after the jump. And if y’all get a chance, listen to some of her earlier material as well, especially that Pretty Gritty mixtape. It’s jammin’.
