Today is the first day of Spring and it’s time for music festival season throughout the Carolinas. One of the first up is the ConvergeNC Southern Music Festival, taking place Saturday April 6, 2013 on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill.
I’m excited about this event for several reasons. One of the ConvergeNC Southern Music Festival’s goals is to feature the diverse music of the American South. The lineup is about 90% rock, blues, and folk music. Durham, NC’s Kaze is the only hip hop artist invited to perform. That’s pretty cool.
Second, yours truly has been invited and will be giving a brief talk on hip hop’s roots in North Carolina and how it’s evolving. This will be the largest crowd I’ve stood in front of to talk about hip hop and I’m stoked. Third is the festival will be taking place on UNC-Chapel Hill’s campus—which is gorgeous in the Spring time.
Overall this should be a pretty cool day!
