The Respect My Vote! program, part of the Hip Hop Caucus, is a non-partisan hip hop voter campaign that works to raise political awareness, register voters and educate young people. RDU’s team has been putting in a lot of work doing just that, and has held several successful events during Sucker Free Sundays at Shakedown (RDU’s largest and weekly hip hop show), community cookouts and more.

This coming Tuesday June 5th will be the latest event, a town hall at Durham’s Hillside High School. Comedian Darren Brand will be hosting, with Pierce Freelon (1/4 of Durham’s hip hop/jazz band The Beast) and professor/poet Dasan Ahanu on a panel, plus a performance from BET Music Matters artist (and Durham native) J. Gunn. The event will be filmed with the broadcast airing on 106 & Park. Should be a great event so be sure to come out.

One time for RDU’s hardworking Respect My Vote! committee: Eargasm Entertainment, E-Double, SDionne Smith, and Nicole Brown. Stay tuned here for more announcements on RDU’s Respect My Vote! events.
