Nanci O Is Hip Hop

Lil Ru is one name that’s coming out of everybody’s mouth between here and Florida. If you’ve been 100% out of the loop then you may have missed the fact that Lil Ru’s Def Jam debut 21 & Up dropped last Tuesday. Since that time it seems that Ru is a topic of discussion everywhere I go. Rather than talk about how dope the album is or how tight the production rocks all I hear is folks talking about is the controversary. Many are speculating how Lil Ru’s record will fair on the charts. The highest estimate I’ve heard is 3,000. A whole 3 stacks (no Andre’ Benjamin).

This week Randy and I go in on the Lil Ru situation. It’s noteworthy that on Episode 6 of Where Is Hip Hop? we discussed the current explosion of Carolina artists signed to major labels. Since that time Yung Daze has been dropped from Collipark Records, State House got signed to Grand Hustle and Lil Ru has the Carolinas abuzz with discontent. How is it that one man has Carolina split right down the middle? People are taking sides and the whole nine.

How will Lil Ru’s success or failure impact the Carolinas?

Can Lil Ru make it in hip hop without his home state’s support?
