The Recession is the best thing smokin‘ about the economy right now. Young Jeezy’s ability to weave stories about what’s going on in the streets right now, regardless if you’ve heard them a million times before, remains innovative without feeling stale or recycled. A good story teller is always needed on deck. Jeezy is the current Paul Harvey of hip hop.
Other artists who does this well are The Clipse, as they exhibit on that Re-Up Gang & Bionik–The Million Dollar Re-Up 2. (I see you Bionik. Holla at your girl).
I digress.
I’ve been down with Jeezy since Come Shop With Me, well before the hood was rocking those shirts with snowmen on them. Between then and now his lyrical ability improves with each major release.
With the exception of The Inspiration, which I didn’t hate but in my opinion is his weakest, Da Snowman consistently drops solid material. Being a former marching band nerd (french horn players stand up) I love beats with big horns , thumping bass, and unrestrained vocals. One thing I can say about Jeezy is the production on his material is always hard; DJ Toomp, Drumma Boy and Shawty Redd all deliver solid production work that meshes well with Jeezy’s ad libs.
Can I get a YEAAAAAAAHHH!
