Nanci O Is Hip Hop

A made rapper’s worst nightmare is to end up on
XXL’s infamous Milk Carton. On this week’s episode of Where Is Hip Hop?, Randy and I discuss the importance of staying relevant and how to do it.

With the abundance of new media and marketing tools it’s almost too easy not to fall off. You must be tactfully visible and release new music to blogs and DJs (mixtape, club, etc) on a consistent basis. It is also vital to network with promoters, models, various forms of media and be able to work with others. There’s also videos, with flip cams and video editing software so cheap you can get one of your homeboys/girls to shoot a video for you.

We also talk about several Carolina artists that had really good buzz and decent music out 6-12 months ago but we wonder where they have been recently. From NC there’s J. Khrist (Fayetteville), Small World (Raleigh), Brolic D (Raleigh) (both of whom are signed to Ludacris’ DTP) and Charlotte’s Sonny Rich. SC had State House (who were signed to Grand Hustle but got dropped earlier this year for reasons unknown) and Yung Daze, who was previously signed to Mr. Collipark (the home of Soulja Boy).
